How to Keep Your Space Clean!
Download the pledge below. For best results, have kids sign it when their spaces are already clean—then they’ll only need to maintain it!
1. Preventing a Mess (Clean as You Go!)
- Put things away right after using them. If you finish a snack, throw away wrappers and put dishes in the sink.
- Wipe small spills immediately. Grab a napkin or cloth and clean up spills before they get sticky.
- Take out items only as needed. Use one toy or activity at a time, and put it back before starting something else.
- Keep surfaces clear. After using your desk or table, put away books, papers, and supplies.
2. Daily Quick Clean-Up
- Clothes: Put dirty clothes in the hamper. Fold and put away clean clothes.
- Trash: Throw away any leftover wrappers, papers, or old items in your space.
- Dishes: Put used dishes in the sink or dishwasher after every meal or snack.
- Floors: Pick up toys, shoes, and random items from the floor.
3. Weekly Deep Clean
- Surfaces: Wipe down tables, desks, and counters.
- Dusting: Use a soft cloth to dust shelves and electronics.
- Vacuum/Sweep: Make sure to clean floors, especially corners where dirt hides.
- Organize: Sort through drawers, bookshelves, and other storage areas.
4. Bathroom and Kitchen Basics
- Bathroom: After brushing teeth, rinse the sink and put items back. After a shower, hang towels to dry.
- Kitchen: If you cook or prepare food, wipe down surfaces, throw away scraps, and put items back in place.
Top Cleaning Habits to Remember!
- Always clean up after yourself to prevent a mess from building up.
- Put things back where they belong right away.
- Ask for help if you need it but try to do small clean-ups yourself!
